Case Study
Data Platform for a Bluechip German Insurance
Associated with Solvd (Allianz). The client, a leading German insurance company, needed to establish a new data platform for one of their subsidiaries. They wanted to use this opportunity to use a modern infrastructure, follow best practices, and enable advanced analytics for their business events and operations.
Challenge
The client faced the challenge of building a robust and scalable data platform from scratch to unify various internal and external data sources. Existing infrastructure lacked flexibility, and data governance was minimal, leading to inconsistencies and limited data reliability. Additionally, their current design could not accommodate real-time business events for analysis, significantly hindering decision-making capabilities.
Solution
- Built a scalable data platform using Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and AWS, with infrastructure managed through Terraform to leverage the benefits of Infrastructure as Code (IaaC), ensuring consistent, repeatable, and easily extendable deployments.
- A schema registry to enforce data contracts, ensuring consistent and reliable data across systems.
- Implemented CI/CD pipelines, unit, and integration testing using GitLab CI/CD, ensuring streamlined development and deployment processes.
Results
- Reduced deployment times by 2-3 orders of magnitude, enabling changes that typically took months to be completed in a matter of days, and day-long tasks to be finished in just 15 minutes.
- A small team to effectively meet the data needs of the entire organization.
- Due to the platform’s responsiveness to change requests and minimal maintenance requirements, the team was able to support additional initiatives, including data imports/exports, GenAI PoCs, and other internal projects.
